DESPITE the continuing recession Plaxtons (Scarborough) Ltd is confident about the future. For the year ending September 28, 1980, the board reported an after-tax profit of £2.2m as against £2.3 m for the same period in 1979. • This profit would have been greater than the previous years but for the purchase of T. H. Burgess Holdings on July 4, 1980.
Plaxtons have reported a fall in demand for coaches in the current financial year, leading to a slimming down of the coach building division workforce and the introduction of short-time working.
The current year is expected to compare unfavourably with previous years, but the Board is confident that the Group will emerge from the current recession in good shape.
