• The range and versatility of Palfinger lorry-mounted k:ranes is being extended early this year with the addition of an enormous 45 tonnemetre version.
Its maximum lifting moment is attained at a 7.6m outreach. With a choice of extendable booms up to 22.2m, the PK45000 offers the sort of I perating performance normally associated with a dedicated, mobile crane.
The new model, which is still undergoing manufacturer's trials in Austria, uses the new powered-boom linkage that allows the outer boom to inove in a large working area at a constant speed.
Like other knuckle-boom cranes in the PK range. it has a hydraulic overload/overreach device, and in its dry state the PK45000 complete with stabilisers will add around 4,600kg to the weight of its carrying vehicle.
The UK market for lorry loaders is currently at 2,200 units per year, 44% of which are in the 5.1 to 7.5 tonne/metre bracket, and distributors James Jones & Sons of Larbert, Stirlingshire claims a 40% share for Palfinger.
By installing a computer and extending its sales and service outlets James Jones expects to be able to assist operators in specifying the right crane for each vehicle chassis.
James Jones is urging the Association of Lorry Loaders, Manufacturers and Importers to adopt a three-year test for lorry-mounted cranes.
