Council's decision to put a weight restriction on a main road bridge.
The council's highways department says it is not prepared to allow vehicles over 24 tonnes to use the bridge on the A44 at Penybont, near Llandridod Wells. The road is an important link between mid-Wales and the Midlands.
Local long-distance transport operators, using 38-tonners, are questioning the validity of the decision and plan to appeal to the Secretary of State for Wales.
One of them, Ted Thomas of Nantmel, says the weight restriction would mean economic disaster for many operators carrying large loads in and out of Powys. He insists hauliers will demand rebates on the 38-tonne vehicle excise licence fee if the restriction is imposed.
