But not shopkeeper Andrew MacKenzie who was turned down by the police because, at 5ft 7in, he was, er, vertically challenged. Cardiff magistrates' court heard that he set up as a freelance traffic cop by rigging his car with a flashing blue light and pulling in drivers. Off-duty policeman Robert Bevan failed to see the funny side when he stopped him and demanded identification.
MacKenzie awaits sentence. Ironically, the police have now waived the rule on minimum height.
