II Hader Ralph Davies and his transport manager Stephen Bennett are accused of "conspiracy to defraud on a vast scale,a court heard last week.
Gloucester Crown Court was told: "Mr Davies is an international haulier and Mr Bennett was his transport manager. It is the allegation that these defendants together with a number of drivers, at least 23. systematically breached tachograph regulations to exceed working hours and to increase the rev
enue of the haulage company. The evidence is likely to expand further in the months ahead," Don Tait. prosecuting, also said the inquiry went back to 1995 and it had so far cost many millions of pounds to stage.
Judge Gabriel Hutton agreed the case should be classified as a serious fraud and be tried in Bristol Crown Court.
Davies. from Ralph Davies International, and Bennett were both remanded on bail to a date to be fixeii.
