• Sales of light commercial vehicles dipped sharply last month, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. The 1.83.5-tonno GVW van market was badly hit, and is down by 7.5% compared with last year. Part of the May dip is due to the remarkable jump In sales that coincided with the introduction of the Tregistration, but year-todate sales are down by 2.5%, and some traditional
brands have suffered particularly badly: Ford's Transit now commands 35% of the Market, rather than the 42% it had a year ago.
However, brands such as Renault (in both van and HGV sectors) and Foden are doing well--Foden's sales are up almost SO% on last year. And sales of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes have held up: the total market for the year to date is almost identical to a Year age.
