Northern Scotland.
THE Traffic Commissioners for the Northern Scotland area have arranged to hold a number of sittings, and details of applications to be heard are given in Gazette 47. In each case, stage-carriage services will be the chief matters for consideration. Southern Scotland.
THERE will be little objection to the granting of licences at the forthcoming sittings arranged by the Southern Scotland Commissioners, when numerous stage-carriage services will be considered. The Glasgow General Omnibus and Motor Services, Ltd., and the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., will be two well-known applicants.
In Gazette 39 decisions in the matter of 15 appeals are announced, and in each case the Minister of Transport has ordered the appellant to pay the cost of the appeal. The Lanarkshire Traction Co. and the Glasgow General concern are amongst the appellants.
Northern.
AT tho Northern Traffic Commissioners' sitting at Carlisle on May 33th-14th, the L.N.E. and L.M.S. rail
way companies, Cumberland Motor Services, Ltd., and Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., will be the only objectors, and proceedings should be fairly uneventful. Gazette 36 announces that United Automobile Services, Ltd., and Newcastleon-Tyne Corporation have withdrawn certain appeals.
Yorkshire.
IN Gazette 55 it is announced that the Minister of Transport has decided to make an Order on the Traffic Commissioners for the Yorkshire Area in connection with an appeal by Mr. F. Barley, of Thorne, against a refusal of a licence for a Thorne-Thorne Moorends service, whilst appeals by two operators of tours, Mr. H. Barker, of Rotherham, and Mr. C. Riley, also of that town, have been withdrawn.
North-Western.
ACCORDING to Gazette 47 of the NorthWestern Traffic Commissioners, objection will be raised at their sitting in Manchester, on May 23rd 24th, only to applications for the variation of licence conditions. Rochdale Corporation will be a prominent applicant for permission to continue services without modifications.
Southern.
AT the Southern Traffic Commis sioners' sitting at Reading, from May l7th-19th, excursions and tours and stage-carriage services will be the chief matters for consideration, and, according to Gazette 57, there will be no objection to the granting of licences. Amongst services to be considered are those of Venture Transport (Hendon), Ltd., from London to Bournemouth and London to Southsea, and of Black and White Motorways, Ltd., from Cheltenham to London, etc. Varsity Coaches, Ltd., and the Golden West Line, Ltd., will also seek permission to operate on the London-Bournemouth route.
It is announced that E. Jones and Sons, Ltd. (Morning Star Motor Services), Bristol, has won its appeal to the Minister of Transport against cer
tain conditions imposed by the Southern Commissioners.
South-Eastern.
THERE will be a considerable amount of opposition to the granting of licences at the South-Eastern Traffic Commissioners' sitting, which commences at Brighton to-day and continues until next Friday. Expresscarriage services will, of course, provide the greatest amount of controversy, and, in this connection, we notice that opposition will be forthcoming from the Southern Railway Co., the corporations of Brighton, Worthing, Hastings and Ramsgate, the London General Country Services, Ltd., and others. Numerous routes from London to seaside resorts will be reviewed.
Metropolitan.
ALTHOUGH the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioner had proposed not to hold a sitting during the week commencing May 16th, he has had to alter his plans and arrange for a hearing on May 16th to deal with excursions and tours.
