• A spring-loaded retractable stop for semi-trailers fitted with SAF air suspension is being sold by Industrial Machinery Supplies of Loughborough.
The boltor weld-on device, which can also be used with other makes of air suspension, consists of pneumatic cylinders supplied from the "red" emergency air line and is mounted between the chassis rails and the axle.
It is designed to prevent any significant deck-to-axle movement and remain level at loading bays, while also eliminating the tendency for the articulated vehicle to shorten its wheelbase owing to a leaky air system.
Integral rubber pads accept the impact loads between trailer deck and axles during fork-lift loading.
A switch fitted at the rear of the trailer body pressurises the stops. A warning light and buzzer in the cab tells the driver to deflate the stops before driving away.
An automatic safety interlock will be used later.
