Speed limiter offences have cost Leeds-based Lawcris Panel Products £1,085 in fines and costs, When the company appeared before the Liverpool magistrates it pleaded guilty to four offences of using a vehicle when the speed limiter was not working and to six offences of permitting a driver to drive the vehicle in that condition.
Keith Henry, prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, said a vehicle belonging to the company and driven by David Blackburn had been stopped at a check in Lancashire.
An examination of the tachograph charts produced by Blackburn revealed that the speed limiter was not working: sustained speeds of up to 100km/h had been recorded. A test of the speed limiter system confirmed that it was Indeed inoperative. When he was asked how long the speed limiter system had not been controlling the speed, Blackburn had replied: "It has never controlled the vehicle since I started driving it 18 months ago."
An examination of further tachograph charts showed that the speed limiter had been defective since at least the beginning of August. Blackburn claimed that had reported this to transpi manager Jamie Fell, who r said he would sort it out.
The magistrates fined 1 company £100 per offence vs £85 costs.
Blackburn pleaded guilty two offences of using the vehi when the speed limiter was controlling its speed; he vi fined £200 with £70 costs.
