• When Mrs. E. Kirby. coal merchant of Hartlepool, was called to a public inquiry before the Northern deputy Licensing Authority at Middlesbrough last week, evidence was given of overloading of vehicles operated under her C licence. It was stated that more than £2,600 had been spent on the installation of a weighbridge so as to prevent a repetition of the offence. Mr. Baldwin gave the operator a severe warning regarding the need for strict compliance with the law. In the circumstances no penalty was imposed.
