• A prototype one-ton, forward-control Land-Rover, powered by a Rover 3+-litre V8 petrol engine, was one of the many highlights of the Land-Rover coming-of-age demonstrations held on a military site at Tiffield, Northamptonshire, last week. It was built to the specification of the FVRDE and was seen towing a powered-axle, oneton trailer which is also a Rover/FVRDE development. Land-Rovers are used increasingly for special-purpose applications, and an area was set aside for the demonstration of Land-Rover-based equipment in the "under-investigation" category; a variety of auxiliary equipment and bodywork developed over the past six months or so was also included in the displays. The photographs on this page were selected to indicate a cross-section of the types of equipment on view.
