ABOUT 40 companies are currently engaged in the first stage of the procedure for installing private railways sidings, planning schemes with British Rail or Freightliners Ltd, reported Transport Minister Mr Fred Mulley in the Commons last week.
He pointed out that the development of this type of scheme inevitably took time, and so far two schemes had reached the stage of formal application for grant.
No expenditure had yet been incurred, added the Minister.
