to shelve coach plans
PLANS by the National Bus Company to develop a special long-distance coach for its National Travel subsidiary have been indefinitely shelved, it was revealed this week. Mr George McKay, NBC's director of technical services told CM that the company's financial troubles prevented further development of the project.
NBC had envisaged building up a fleet of super coaches capable of 300-mile duties and had circulated the manufacturing industry with some rough guidelines of what it wanted. Ideas mooted are understood to have included double-glazing, engines of up to 300bhp to provide sustained 80mph cruising and substantial luggage accommodation, probably necessitating a high floor.
