LONDON TRANSPORT is to examine a £3.8m scheme to equip its 5,600 buses with two-way radio, LT deputy chairman Mr Ralph Bennet said this week, and place LT staff on a better footing to deal with assaults.
In a feature article on page 52 of this issue (written before this was known) London Transport is criticised for its previous slowness to get anti-hooligan measures off the ground.
Also in London this week a three-year jail sentence wa passed on a man convicted c assaulting a bus conductor.
Midlands BRS renews
A £500,000 new vehicle prc gramme for 1975 has been or nounced by Midliands BRS. Th programme will involve the pu] chase of 50 new vehicles and ovE 200 trailers. Over 50 per cent c the vehicles will be 32/38-ton-gc, tractive units.
