• Wigan-based bodybuilder Northern Counties plans to diversify outside its traditional doubledeck business with the launch of its allaluminium single-deck Countybus body at Coach & Bus '91 this October (CM 22-28 November 1990).
Only four of the 200 units it produced last year were single-deckers, but after the Countybus is introduced single-deckers are planned to account for 25% of total production.
The Countybus will be available to operators from October, alongside its other single-decker body on the Renault PR100 chassis.
It will initially be available on the 8.5, 9.0 and 9.5m Dennis Dart, Volvo B1OM, Dennis Lance and the Iveco Citybus chassis, followed by the Scania N113CR and Lynx II chassis (CM 17-23 January).
Northern Counties says that the body has been designed to minimise down time. The front and rear sections are GRP panels; lower side valance areas can be replaced in minutes. The front has been given particular attention, says managing director Neil Scales, to make it more exciting". The Countybus will offer a variety of seating arrangements; on the llm Volvo and Lance chassis it can take more than 50 seats.
f 1NC is also restyling its double-deck range.
