• London's first Red Route, between Highgate and Islington, is reducing journey times by up to 30%, eliminating illegal parking and causing buses to arrive early, according to a report presented to Birmingham's Traffex conference this week.
The report is by engineering consultancy Ove Arup, which is advising the DTp on Red Route implementation. Its author, traffic engineer Hugh Collis, accepts that evidence so far is "largely anecdotal" and a final judgement of the scheme will be based on studies by the Government backed Transport and Road Research Laboratory, whose initial report is expected next month.
Ove Arup's report cites London Transport's rescheduling of its 43 bus route, which includes the Red Route, because buses were arriving ahead of time.
