ALOSS of £1,798,917 was incurred in the year ended March 31 last by Caras lompair Eireann, the State transport organization of the Irish Republic. This figure includes provision for sinking fund and depreciation. A net loss of £1,169,000 was incurred by the railways, whose livestock traffic receipts fell sharply, partly because of the growth of private transport, including the extensive development of services from Northern Ireland.
Road haulage returned a profit of £81,484. Road passenger services showed a profit of £743,412. Coach tours and private hire yielded improved results, says C.T.E.'s annual report.
