A STAFFORDSHIRE subbie claims he is owed £12,000 by a Kent logistics company for work dating back to October. despite repeated calls to the firm.
Nick Blurton has been working on Canterbury-based Whitefriar International's contract with Dutch firm Stok Continental Services since last September but has not been paid for the past month. He says Whitefriar has told him this is because it has not been paid by Stok.
Worth says: "I have already had to sell three of my four trucks back to the finance company. Owner-drivers can't survive with 30 days' payment terms — I am struggling even to buy milk for my six-week old baby. White friar is still carrying out work for Stok. I'm sure if they weren't being paid they would have given up working for them."
Stok Continental Services was formed in June after Dutch haulier Stok Cargo went into receivership, leaving a number of UK firms struggling to claim back money owed to them.
Stellendam, Netherlands-based Stok Cargo depended heavily on UKbound traffic and worked in partnership with Immingham-based Davis Freight. However, Davis ended this arrangement in March when it became clear that Stok was in financial difficulty,and the administrators were called in (CM 26 June).
Jacques Van der Linden. Stok Cargo's former commercial direc tor and director of Stok Continental Services,says Blurton's contract is with Whitefriar, adding that its invoices are up to date. Whitefriar declined to comment.
