• A British Leyland spokesman has advised CM that the AEC NO Series V8 diesel is still in production "on a limited basis". In its existing standard form, it would not comply with future legislation notably with regard to smoke and noise ratings, but it is anticipated that a version will shortly be available that will comply with the regulations. The development of higher-output versions is continuing.
British Leyland has reaffirmed that the Leyland Series 500 fixed-head diesel is operationally "well in the clear" with regard to future requirements and report that it is performing favourably in service. The 500 develops 170 bhp in naturally aspirated form while turbocharged versions develop 200 bhp and 260 bhp. Experimental turbocharged engines have developed up to 400 bhp.
