• Sealink, the shipping and international services division of British Railways,, is to invest more than £600,000 in modernization and the development of end loading facilities at Fishguard Harbour, the UK terminal for Sealink's most southerly ferry route to Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland. This project will permit the full development of roll-On /off freight services and will eliminate the present side loading system with its height restriction on vehicles of 6ft 3in., and facilitate acceptance of all types of rollonloff traffic including lorries, caravans, motor coaches and trailers. At Rosslare Harbour an end loading ramp is already in existence.
Other works associated with the scheme include new Customs facilities for passengers and freight, enlarged vehicle assembly areas plus improved road access to Fishguard Harbour. There will also be a new commercial vehicle freight shed incorporating an amenity block especially for lorry drivers, including a rest room and showers.
Starting shortly, work on the new installations is scheduled for completion during the spring of 1972.
