• Coaches and taxis are to be allowed to use some of London's bus lanes as an experiment. The GLC's environmental planning committee which decided this after talks with London Transport and the Metropolitan Police, this week, agreed also to let Cyclists use the kerbside with-flow bus lanes which are not physically separated from the rest of the traffic. The date has yet to be announced.
Taxis have already been allowed to use the bus lane in Park Lane as an experiment with little effect on bus operation. Minicabs, because of the difficulty in distinguishing them from private cars, will remain barred from the bus lanes, but scheduled buses operated by other companies than LT will be allowed to use them.
