• New machines that promote quality control in the production of hydraulic rams, tipping bodies and container handling equipment have been installed by Telehoist Ltd in the company's factory in Cheltenham as part of a substantial investment programme. These include a Pearson 20ft guillotine, a 500-ton brake press, a Wickham Scrivener No. 3 centreless grinding machine and a Delapena horizontal honing machine.
The guillotine can cut steel having a thickness up to ;in., and the grinding machine is used to manufacture ram components with lengths up to 8ft and diameters up to Sin. Hydraulic cylinders with lengths of 2ft to 10ft and with bores of 2in. to 10in, can be handled by the honing machine, which is housed in an insulated extension of the factory. The insulation reduces the effect of the high pitched whine produced by the machine on workers in the building
