THE first post-war Congress of the Institute of Transport is to be held at Buxton from June 22-24, inclusive, with headquarters at the Palace Hotel. The programme is as follows:—
June 22: Morning, " The Team Spirit' in Industry," by Mr. J. Benstead,C.B.E., M.Inst.T., deputy-chairman British Transport Commission; afternoon, alternative visits at Derby to the Railway Control Office. Carriage and Wagon Works, School of Transport, Rolls-Royce, Ltd.; evening, reception by the Mayor of Buxton.
June 23: Morning, "The Philosophy of Transport," by Mr. Raymond Birch, M.I.Mech.E., M.Inst.T.; afternoon. visit to Chatsworth House, or works of the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., Stockport; evening, reception by president, and dance.
June 24: Alternative visits to Manchester Ship Canal, the mills of Richard Haworth and Co., Ltd., or the "School of Signalling.
SEATS INCREASED BY 25 PER CENT
A S the result cf an ambitious pro tt of renewal, the bus fleet
of the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., will by May next surpass the highest pre-war standards of seating capacity, comfort and mechanical efficiency, says Mr. J. Amos, director and general manager.
A big reconstruction programme was undertaken at the New Street depot, Edinburgh. under the direction of Mr.
Dawson, chief engineer. The work was accomplished with little extension of the maintenance labour force of under 400 at the depot, and was in addition to the normal fleet repair and maintenance work. By early summer, the S.M.T. .would shOw a net increase' of over 25 per cent: on the highest pre-war seating capacity.

Edinburgh-London service.It is the company's policy to concentrate on wider vehicles, and 40 8-ft. doubledeck buses are on order for service in and around Edinburgh.
