ANEW range of semi-trailers known as Pem Trailers has been announced by Peebles Engineering and Marine Co. Ltd., 4 Backdamgate, Hawick.
Designed to give high capacity of lowdensity materials, this range of miniature attics covers payloads of 15, 21 and 35 cwt. and is recommended for use with several chassis/cab versions of lightweight goods vehicles.
Vehicles so far approved are the BMC 6 and 10 cwt.; the Leyland 20 and the Ford Transit 22 cwt. Also used is the Land-Rover. One version of the heaviest unit produced is a car transporter towed behind a Land Rover and suitable for carrying three Minis, two 1100s or a similar load.
Two couplings are used on the trailers, one being the Davies Magnet I in.-dia. kingpin fifth-wheel type and the other a newly designed ball-type coupling which can be coupled simply by backing on to it. Units can be supplied with either single axle or tandem rear bogies with braking by vacuumhydraulic, or mechanical means, giving driver-controlled brakes on 01 wheels. Chassis frames are constructed from Stewart and Lloyds' rectangular box-section mild-steel and Bramber Flexitor suspensions are used exclusively. When tandem units are incorporated, a patented design of support beam is used, which enables floor levels of only 11 in. to be achieved.
Bodywork is made up from standard panels which are of an interlocking design and available in widths of 5, 5.5, 6, 7. and 8 ft.
