• Romford-based Stolt-Nielsen Leasing has developed a refrigerated 6.1m (20ft) tank container system that will carry up to 21,000 litres of hazardous vinyl pyridine products at temperatures between -15 and +20°C.
The 21m' ISO reefer tank was designed by technical director Martyn Gill in response to Synthetic Chemicals' need to carry a temperature-sensitive product at -10°C. It would otherwise have to be transhipped in drums inside refrigerated containers normally used for foodstuffs. SNL's reefer tank comprises a standard tank suitable for carrying IMO Class 1 products but equipped with a refrigeration unit bolted to it within the ISO frame.
The freezer system uses a circulating water/glycol mixture and can be easily removed should the tank be required to carry heated products.
