• A 21-year-old who believes she could be the youngest female HGV1 driver, after passing her test last month, is hoping to buy a 38-tonner to set up in business.
Laura Weatherley of Kent passed her test a week after her 21st birthday, the minimum legal HGV1 driving age. She has saved more than £15,000 during nearly five years as a packer at a serviette factory to spend on her dream truck, a Volvo Globetrotter.
Weatherley's enthusiasm for trucks was passed down by her parents who run a three-tipper business JA Weatherley & Son at Orpington, Kent.
"It's in my blood. My mum and dad are lorry drivers and since I was a baby I would travel around with my parents in a truck," says Weatherley.
Weatherley passed her test with Rochester-based Kent Metro. She says she would consider any type of general haulage, including long-distance work in England and Scotland and international trips.
