• An Essex driver arrested by French police in Folkestone on charges of smuggling Indian illegal immigrants into the UK has been acquitted.
Lee Baker was arrested on 25 January and taken to a Paris jail by Eurostar (CM 11-17 Feb). He was so distressed by his imprisonment that he received visits from prison psychiatrists.
Danneke Neale of the Driver's Family Helpline says Baker was acquitted on 3 March due to lack of evidence.
Joanne Easter, Baker's girlfriend, says Baker had only been arrested after French police saw him talking to a man they were investigating on suspicion of smuggling.
Easter plans to apply for compensation from French police for the wrongful arrest.
