A driver who had continued to drive 38-tome artics for Wigan-based
Steve Edwards Transport while disqualified has been put on probation for 18 months and ordered to do 100 hours' community service.
Wigan magistrates also disqualified Brian Coulton for a further six months, and ordered him to pay 2150 costs after he also pleaded guilty to daily and weekly rest offences.
Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, John Heaton said Coulton had been disqualified for 12 months by the Chorley magistrates for drink-driving. He had not told his employer, and had illegally driven more than 29,000km.
Coulton said he had had business problems to do with a pub and his daughter's wedding had to be postponed because of a lack of funds. He had also beer under threat of losing his house—to him it had beer worth the risk.
For Coulton, Robert Brice said Steve Edwards Transport saw him as a valuable worker and would employ him again as soon as he got his licence back.
