Spanish traffic officers: 'they're grrrreatr
TRAFFIC OFFICERS from Spain's Civil Guard had to contend with an unusual road collision that included two trucks and four tigers last month The accident involved a truck, owned by a Portuguese circus, that was travelling on the Spanish A52 highway, colliding with another truck, near Benavente (150 miles north-west of Madrid).
Both drivers were slightly injured, and the tigers' cages were damaged, so there was a risk they might have escaped.
The traffic officers set up security measures to prevent the big cats from absconding. Using anaesthetic darts, they sedated the animals and oversaw their transfer to another trailer to complete their journey, Ian Hamill, general secretary of the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), says: "Traffic police officers across Europe are committed to assisting all road users — drivers, pedestrians, cyclists or tigers."
