AFTER seven years as vice-chairman of the Road Haulage Association, Mr. R. G. Crowther, of F. Crowther and Son (Wakefield), Ltd., on Wednesday took over the office of national chairman in succession to Mr. James Barrie.
Two new vice-chairmen were also elected, one to replace Mr. Crowther and the other to succeed Mr. Frank Fowler, who was elected last year. They are Mr. Herbert H. Crow (Crow Carrying Co., Ltd., Barking), a former chairman of the Metropolitan and SouthEastern Area, and Mr. D. 0. Good (C. R. Good and Sons, Beer), of the Devon and Cornwall Area.
The other vice-chairmen are M. R. N. Ingram (W. R. Ingram, Ltd., Yardley, Birminghan-0, and 'Mr. J. B. Mitchell (Scottish Central Carting Co., Ltd., Leith), who were elected last year.
There has been little speculation this year about the nominations for chairmanship. Mr. Fowler and Mr. Crowther were obvious choices, but Mr. Fowler was chairman from 1950-52 after a long period as vice-chairman, and had to bear much of the brunt of the fight against nationalization, as well as for denationalization.
