In 2008 Mercedes bucked the cab-over trend by unveiling its 7.2-litre engined Zetros bonneted 4x4 and 6x6 severe-duty on/off-road trucks and tractors for utility companies, emergency services and the gas, mining and oil-field industries. The civilian Zetros’s roots can be traced back to Mercedes’ original S2000 military truck project, which was one of the three contenders in the British Army truck contract eventually won by MAN.
