• Partek Cargotec has developed a smaller 8.0-tonne version of its DROPS (Demountable Rack Off-loading and Pick-up System) vehicles.
The first example, with 10ft (3.12m) flatrack, is fitted to a 20.06-tonne GVW 6x6 highmobility land carrier (HMLC) developed by the UK's Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and currently undergoing service trials (CM 16-22 January).
Partek's
new flatracks, each carrying four standard pal
lets, are designed to be linked in pairs so that they can then be hauled on to a full-sized DROPS vehicle.
DERA's 9.0-tonne-payload 6x6 combines a Ricardo SVdesigned chassis and Glover Webb cab with a 350hp (261kW) Cummins L10 chargecooled in-line six diesel.
Transmission is via an Eaton nine-speed automatic with a Rockwell transfer box.
Rockwell/Timoney axles have in-board air-operated disc brakes. A Ginaf, Holland rear steer system comes in at low speeds reducing the turning circle to 14.7m.
