Absent operator loses licence

Michael Betts, the Scottish Traffic Commissioner revoked the licence held by Stuart Gibson, trading as Gibson Road Services, of Glenrothes, when for the second time he failed to attend an Edinburgh disciplinary inquiry.
The TC heard that when the police at Grangemouth stopped a Gibson Road Services vehicle loaded with pipes, the driver ran away.
An Andrew Bean, whom the police had been unable to trace, signed the delivery note; the tachograph chart was in the name of David Gibson, Stuart Gibson's nominated transport manager. When interviewed, David Gibson had claimed he had been with Bean in the vehicle and that he had also runoff. He denied he was Bean's employer, despite repeated statements by Stuart Gibson to the police and the Vehicle Inspectorate that David Gibson was the real operator.
The TC held that David Gibson no longer met the requirement of good repute and noted that he had failed to attend the inquiry despite being asked to.
Revoking the licence, the TC said Stuart Gibson had also failed to attend.
