CERTAIN amendments concerning the examination regulations have been announced by the Council of the Institute of Transport. The pass list, in future, will show candidates who have distinguished themselves, as having been awarded first-class or second-class honours.
There is now no studentship examination. Candidates will be regarded as qualified to apply for election as students if they have passed the School Certificate examination or some other general examination of similar stan dard, acceptable to the Council, or if they can satisfy the Council that they have reached a good educational standard and can pursue satisfactorily study for other Institute examinations. An additional regulation concerning the associate-membership examination is to the effect that candidates, who are not less than S5 and who are able to satisfy the Council that they are qualified by education and experience, may submit a thesis in lieu of the examination. Applications to offer this must include the proposed title
and a synopsis. The completed thesis must be typed and in duplicate, accompanied by examination fee, a declaration that it is the candidate's own work, and the names of two corporate members who can certify this. Examiners may test the candidate on the thesis either orally or in writing. The thesis must show practical and theoretical knowledge of transport, and be a record of original thought or reaearch contributing to such knowledge, or a critical treatise on existing information or practice.
