• The long-running dispute over driver pay at the container operator Goodway is to go to arbitration at the conciliation service ACAS.
Transport and General Workers Union official Les Shaw says he hopes ACAS will be able to arrange talks this week between the union and Goodway.
The company agreed to meet ACAS after receiving the results of a ballot among 52 dri
vers at Goodway's Felixstowe, Manchester and Grays, Essex depot which showed that all were willing to take some form of industrial action and 88% were willing to strike.
The drivers have suspended an indefinite overtime ban which had been due to begin on Monday (9 December).
The result of a similar ballot among 10 United Road Transport Union drivers is expected in about a week,
