• Chairman and chief executive of ERF Peter Foden will retire at the end of this month after 46 years on the ERF board. He will become honorary life president of ERF on 1 January 1997.
And he will also be retained as a consultant to the company over the next three years, will assist with public relations activities and remain as chairman of the trustees of the ERF pension scheme.
He will be replaced as chairman by Terry Peabody, chairman of Western Star Holdings, which acquired ERF earlier this year. John Bryant, managing director of ERF will become managing director of the entire ERF group.
Peter Foden joined ERF as an apprentice after the World War II and became a director at the age of 20 on the death in 1950 of his father ER Foden, founder of the company. 10 years later he became managing director following the death of his half brother Dennis.
Foden is the last member of his family to be involved in ERE. His son Paul resigned from the company last month.
