THE new lighting regulation forecast in CM last week will come into force on April 1. The regulations are The Road Vehicles (Headlamps) Regulations 1967 No. 1933 (Price 10d) and The Road Vehicles Lighting (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1967 No. 1934 (price 6d); both are now obtainable from HM Stationery Office.
The headlamp regulations require most motor vehicles having four or more wheels to carry two headlamps which can emit main and dipped beams or two groups of headlamps so arranged that the outside lamps can emit dipped beams and all the other lamps can emit main beams. Requirements on wiring, positioning and wattage are imposed.
SI 1934 further amends the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1964 by adding to the exempted vehicles and extending conditions governing front lamps to sealed beam lamps and, similarly, to reversing lights. In addition, the minimum rated wattage of bulbs to be used in rear lamps on vehicles registered before April 1 1959 is reduced from 6 watts to 5 watts to accord with Europe an practice.
