AN export passenger chassis, based on the Trident 12-tons-gross goods chassis, has been announced by Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd. It has been designed to take bodies with up to 45 seats and its suspension layout .makes it. 'suitable for use over second-class or dirt roads.
The 16-ft. 6-in.-wheelbase chassis is powered by a.Thornycroft 90 b.h.p. sixcylindered oil engine and the constantmesh gearbox has five. forward speeds; plus an overdrive ratio. This gives the
a32 chassis a maximum road speed of 50f m.p.h. Air-hydraulic brakes are employed, and the two-leading-shoe units have a total frictional area of 614 sq. in.
Progressive semi-elliptic springs and 7.-in.-stroke telescopic dampers are fitted to both axles, extra-deep bump rubbers being incorporated. The standard tyres are 10.00-20 in. (12-ply), and the dry chassis weight is 3 tons 10i cwt. Maximum gross weight recommended_ is 12 tons.
