him to do work for them. Twenty hired vehicles had been regularly employed during the past 12 months and up to 50 were required at peak periods. There were only 11 Aand B-licensed tippers available for hire in the area, and they had been forced to support applications for short-term B licences.
Mr. Jackson, in evidence, said he had recently secured a contract for the whole of the sand and gravel connected with the building of Leconfield Aerodrome, and part of a £3m. contract for the I.C.I. building project at Bilton. near Stockton.
Mr. Randolph granted the application, but restricted eight vehicles to sand and gravel haulage within 50 miles, and building materials 30 miles. One vehicle was restricted to sand and gravel within 50 miles only.
