A N application to the North Western rt Traffic Commissioners by Messrs. E. J. Bostock and Sons, Congleton, for a substantive express licence to run a works service between Congleton and the A. V. Roe works, at Woodford, was withdrawn at Manchester on Tuesday after the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., produced an agreement signed by the, late Mr. E. J. Bostock in 1939. This was when he sold his stagecarriage services in the Congleton and Macclesfield areas to the company.
Mr. Howard Robinson, for the applicants, said that they. were unaware of the existence of this agreement until the previous day. There had been no copy, 'and both Mr. Bostock, Snr., and the witness who signed the agreement were now dead.
The agreement provided that the vendor should not be considered in the operation of public service vehicles, except excursions and tours, on any road or way operated by the company, or within 50 miles thereof. No term of years had been set to the agreement, and although they had had no knowledge of it, the Bostoek family felt bound in honour to withdraw their application and the objection to that of North Western, said Mr. Robinson.
