THE South African Railways and Ilarbours -Administration have ordered a fleet of twenty 61-passenger vehicles from Albion Motors, Ltd.. for their country road passenger services.
A high-powered chassis has been specially designed to carry the traffic and operate over secondary roads on these services. The chassis is intended to carry a two-compartment body for eight first-class and 53 third-class passengers.
This new Albion vehicle, known as the "Royal Scot," is a six-wheeled model and is designed to operate with a separate trailer. The power unit, which develops 200 b.h.p., is the Leyland-Albion 0/900 6-cylindered horizontal oil engine. The vehicles will be equipped with six-speed gearboxes, the sixth speed being an overdrive gear, to give a road speed of 57 m.p.h.
