MINE identical tenders were received 11 by Hull City Council when they offered a contract worth about £.100,000 for the supply of fuel to the municipal bus undertaking (The Commercial Motor, June 28). Members thought last week that there had been "collusion" between the companies and decided to report the matter to the Monopolies Commission.
The tenth tender, which offered a l-16d. discount for prompt payment, was accepted.
Cllr. K. Kirkwood pointed out that the identical tenders came from different parts of the country. The travelling public suffered when monopolies were allowed to operate, and it was a serious matter when companies could eliminate competition in this way.
DUMPER CASE APPEAL?
ADECISION by Reading magistrates that dumpers used to carry asphalt on a public road need not be insured against third-party risks (The Commercial Motor, June 21) may be
challenged in the High Court. The Borough Watch Committee has instructed the Town Clerk to take any action he thinks necessary for an appeal.
