lahese eager beavers in matching coats are the new apprentices of MAN's Tech 2000 Parts programme at their recent induction day at Swindon. The three-year apprenticeship is run in conjunction with Soundwell College in Bristol, where the facilities are designed specifically for heavy vehicle technology.
The apprentices are issued with personal computers with which to access "MANTIS", MAN's parts stock, search and selection system—and they gel to keep them when they qualify. How times have changed. In my day apprentices would have been counted lucky to leave college with a pair of old overalls and an oily rag...
