Adam Purshall, too, thinks it makes no sense to have some drivers complying with the directive and others not.
"It has to be a level playing field," he says. "The European Commission is taking a soft touch approach to this. Sooner or later, it is going to have to enforce it completely."
Purshall doesn't buy the argument that policing self-employed drivers on working hours would be any more difficult than with existing regulations.
"There are no valid arguments against it," he says, "And Ts no different to tachograph legislation, or even the smoking ban." (Continued on page 30)
