Charles Burke supports owner-drivers' right to remain exempt from working time rules, but only because he is vehemently opposed to the entire directive, anyway.
Tye never been for it. I'm a firm believer that if someone wants to get an in business and is prepared to work hard for it, they should be allowed to.
"Of course, I'm not talking about driving in an unsafe manner. But even Tony Blair, when he was still Prime Minister, said on TV he worked longer than 48 hours a week.
"I think it should be abolished."
As for the implications of the EC U-turn, Burke thinks it's possible companies may deploy more owner-drivers if it means they can keep goods on the move.
