Further afield, early summer saw Norfolkline reinstate the former superfast service from Rosyth to Zeebrugge, the new Scottish Viking running to the same thrice-weekly schedule as before, sailing from Zeebrugge at 18:00CET on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and back out of Rosyth at 17:00GMT the following day. The decision was widely welcomed by local operators, keen to avoid the 200-mile journey to the alternative at Teesport. After three months, the operator has reported a successful summer, despite the recession still meaning reduced freight volume. One area that it is keen to expand, though, is the importation of new cars direct from Northern Europe to Scotland, with Mercedes-Benz already signed-up.
