Olympics contracts put out to tender
THE ORGANISING committee behind the London 2012 Olympic Games is putting £700m worth of work — including contracts that could benefit road transport firms — out to tender. The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is asking firms to bid for work in facilities management and catering, security, services, ceremonies, sports and technology. UPS already has the contract for transport 6 services covering venue logistics, warehousing 3 services and equipment pick-up and delivery.
Catering transport specialists are expected to benefit from the latest contracts on offer.
LOCOG chairman Sebastian Coe says: "We are starting the procurement process for everything we need to stage a memorable Olympic Games. The scope of this is potentially massive — from sporting equipment to catering services and beyond.
LOCOG procurement director Gerry Walsh, says: "There are a number of opportunities for companies of all sizes to get involved."
The London 2012 Olympic Games website (wwwiondon2012.com/) has more information on the `compete for procurement' process, as well as giving alerts and updates about potential opportunities for companies.
