Within a year a company had been ven two warnings about keeping a register drivers' log books but had still failed to ) so. It was now time for a short, sharp sson, and the fleet of four vehicles and four ailers would be suspended for one month. This decision was given by Mr Gerald idner, the Eastern deputy LA, when J. icks (Haulage) Ltd, Tyd St Mary, Wisbech, ambs, appeared before him under Section ) last week at Peterborough.
Referring to the warnings Mr Kidner said e company had been convicted of failing keep a register in October 1972. For this ason when the licence came up for renewal To months later in December the LA had fered renewal for two years only and this id been accepted by Mr James Hicks. tspite these warnings, said Mr Kidner, when a traffic examiner called at the operator's premises in May no register could be produced. Explaining the need for a register Mr Kidner said it was in the interests of public safety that records be kept. "It is not a bit of senseless form filling devised by some faceless bureaucrat."
For the company Mr Hicks said he thought he had a register but his office system was not very good and he could not find it. He had intended defending the case before magistrates arising from the traffic examiner's visit but had arrived too late at court. He had been advised not to appeal against conviction and was fined £.25.
After the decision Mr Hicks said it was his busy season and he would appeal against the suspension.
