• The first rear-engined double-deck bus for service in Cape Town, South Africa, has been loaded on board the Clan Line vessel Clan Maclean at Birkenhead. It will pioneer the use of Daimler Fleetlines in Cape Town, 25 of which have been ordered by Cape Tramways, the holding company for a major busoperating consortium. The chassis wit be delivered c.k.d. for assembly in South Africa .where the front entrance bodywork will be designed and built to Cape Tramways' requirements.
Although this is the first order received for Diamler Fleetlines an additional requirement was the quick supply of one extra vehicle and this has been made possible through the co-operation of Mr. G. G. Hi!ditch, general manager of Halifax Passenger Transport. The bus, which has a 74-seat body by Northern Counties, will be operated initially in Halifax colours and will carry a goodwill message from the Halifax undertaking. A replacement vehicle is being built for service in the Yorkshire town.
