• The Industrial Relations Bill received the Royal Assent on August 5. The provisions of the legislation will be brought into force in stages by statutory instrument during the next few months. This progressive introduction is necessary, says the DEP, because of the time needed to set up and staff the new institutions which are established under the legislation. Advance notice will be given of the introduction of the various provisions.
Mr Robert Carr, Secretary of State for Employment, intends shortly to make an announcement about the timetable for the establishment of the various institutions and the introduction of the different provisions.
